TWI's Philosophy and the Equity Continuum©

TWI's philosophy is grounded in the belief that recognizing and developing the unique talents of all employees will result in an equitable workplace that experiences superior business results.  Although there is a demonstrated link between equitable work environments and employee productivity, customer value, and ultimately revenue and profit, organizations may not pursue equity for business reasons, and instead are motivated by something else.

What motivates organizations to address equity and inclusion?  Some are responding to employment equity and affirmative action legislation; others see addressing past inequities as the right thing to do; while others see workplace equity as a driver of employee productivity, innovation and teamwork, customer satisfaction, and ultimately bottom line business results.  A few see no problems at all and are motivated only to sustain the status quo.

In order to gain an understanding of the approaches to issues of fairness The Equity Continuum© was developed. On a scale of 0 to 5 the continuum rates organizations on their approach to issues of equity in the workplace. Organizations are positioned on the scale based on their underlying motivation to address equity.

Twos   Moving Beyond Compliance:  The driving force is the belief that addressing historically disadvantaged groups is the right thing to do.

Threes  The Business Case:

The driving force is the business benefits that result  from an equitable and inclusive workplace.

Fours Integrated Diversity: The driving force is diversity as a core organizational value that is fully integrated and sustainable.

Fives Inclusive & Equitable Organizations: The driving force is leveraging equity with internal and external stakeholders to be recognized as leaders.

The Total Equity Solution©
helps you develop a human equity strategy to maximize the diverse talents and experience of your total workforce.  Created by TWI Inc., The Total Equity Solution© will help you increase profits, attract and retain great employees, and achieve and exceed your corporate objectives.

"Many organizations have already achieved some diversity objectives, but senior decision makers may still lack confidence in their human capital management," says Trevor Wilson president of TWI Inc.  They may not have meaningful goals for their diversity program beyond improving representation.  Their HR policies and procedures may be outdated or lack an effective accountability framework.  Executives and corporate leaders may not recognize the strategic importance of the business case for diversity and inclusiveness.  Past initiatives may not have been implemented undermining the credibility of leadership's commitment.  They may be unaware of all available resources to attract and retain the best talent for their organization.  Managers may lack the skills and competencies to treat people equitably."

"For these reasons, their workforce may not be as effective as they should be.  They may have high employee attrition, and morale and motivation may be low.  Job ghettos and employee segmentation may contribute to poor teamwork and a low level of trust and communication.   Many employees may not get along with each other, and discrimination and harassment may be evident.  As a result, they may have developed a bad reputation as an employer in the community or their industry.  That's why we created The Total Equity Solution© ."

To coach you through The Total Equity Solution© we have created the Total Equity Program© which is divided into three distinct stages.

"We developed this program working with our clients during the past fifteen years," Wilson says.  "We help them understand their current situation and create a powerful vision for their future. Then we look at the roadblocks standing in their way, develop strategies to overcome them, and review all of the tools to help them achieve their vision."

To help you get started with our program, you can participate in a private Total Equity Workshop©.  During the session, you work with us through the first stage of our process.  When you've completed the workshop, you'll be ready to participate in stage two, The Blueprint Session©, designed to help you develop and implement your Total Equity Roadmap©.  In stage three, we help you develop a Total Equity Team© and implement the roadmap.  You can also take advantage of The Total Equity Toolbox©, our full suite of tools and capabilities.

"As a participant in our program, you will have developed a human equity strategy to maximize the diverse talents and experience of your total workforce.  This strategy will help you work towards a Totally Equitable and Inclusive Workplace."

When you have achieved this model:

  • You will have established meaningful goals for your diversity program and have embraced a vision of equity for all.
  • Senior executives will buy-in to your diversity program and the company will publicly recognize the importance of diversity.
  • You will demographically represent the community you serve and your executive team will be representative of a diversity of groups.
  • You will understand the needs of your employees and alternative work programs will account for different gender, cultural, family and religious needs.
