Stage 1: Visioning

Stage 1: VisioningWhat is your ideal workplace?

"Every initiative in the diversity strategy must be seen in the context of a vision."
Diversity at Work

The first stage of our change process is designed to align senior leaders on the vision of a totally equitable and inclusive work environment - one that is fair for all.  The goal is to shift from a vision based on "equality" to one on "equity".

Equality is about treating people the same, thereby ignoring their differences, while equity is about treating people fairly, which means acknowledging their differences.  Diversity has become a divisive issue in many organizations that pits one group against another.  A vision of equity for all promotes an inclusive approach to diversity and a shared sense of purpose.

Visioning has two components:

  1. Executive Briefing - a presentation to your executive team that builds a common understanding of equity, describes your vision of an ideal workplace, "scores" your organization's current approach to diversity using the Equity Continuum™, and confirms your compelling business case.
  2. Leveling Sessions - a series of management training sessions that share the vision and business case, and prepare leaders for the role they will need to play in implementing and delivering a Total Equity Solution©.

Questions to ask:

  • Do your leaders have a vision of an ideal workplace?
  • Does that vision integrate the concept of diversity and the fair treatment of all employees?
  • Do your leaders understand and share the vision?
  • Have they clearly articulated a compelling business case for diversity?
